Accessibility
This exhibition is built to be usable by as many people as possible. This page sets out what is supported today, what is still in progress, and how to tell us when something does not work.
Standard
Driving Canada aims to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Every text and background pairing in the design is measured against that standard and verified automatically whenever the design changes.
What is supported
- Every control is a real, focusable element with an accessible name, and everything reachable with a pointer is reachable with a keyboard.
- A visible focus outline appears on every interactive element, on every background.
- Colour is never the only way information is conveyed. Anything marked by colour is also marked by a label, a fill, an underline or a position.
- Touch targets are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Pages are readable and navigable with JavaScript disabled.
- If your system asks for reduced motion, animation is not played.
Simplified view
Every page has a Simplified version with minimal motion, transcripts shown inline rather than behind a control, and no ambient audio. Switch between the Immersive and Simplified views with the View control in the header, on any page. Your choice is remembered on this device, and Simplified pages have their own web addresses, so you can bookmark or share one directly.
Captions and transcripts
Interviews with a published recording carry a full transcript. Where a recording is not yet available, the interview is published as a transcript instead and labelled as such — no page presents an empty player. Captions are in production and are not yet available; this page will be updated when they are.
Language
A complete French version of this exhibition is in production. Until it is published, the language control in the header is shown but not active, so that no page presents itself as translated when it is not.
Reporting a barrier
If something on this site prevents you from reading, hearing or navigating the exhibition, please tell us. Describe what you were trying to do and what happened, and include the device, browser and any assistive technology you were using if you can. We aim to respond within five working days.
